Disney's Beach Club Resort
Stormalong Bay
The kid's favorite hotel to stay at in Disney World is without a doubt the Beach Club Resort. The main reason being is that it has one of the best pools out of all the Disney resorts. The entire pool is named Stormalong Bay, it's almost like a mini waterpark. The kids love to get a tube and lounge along the lazy river, or slip and slide down the giant shipwreck water slide, or swim around in the sand bottom pool. Either way, they can spend hours enjoying this place.
On our most recent trip to Walt Disney World, we set aside two days just to enjoy Stormalong Bay. Unfortunately, all the poolside cabanas were booked up, so if you are looking to reserve a cabana make sure you call in advance to reserve. I am not sure if it a lack of staff, or just so many people traveling to Disney, but when we called to request a cabana by the pool, we were on hold for over two hours, so be prepared to wait before you can even get someone on the phone.
The pool does have food service at Hurrican Hanna's Waterside Bar and Grill, so you can lay out in a lounge chair and place your order with a server. We did that a few times and the servers all did a great job so we were happy with this. However, if you are hoping to run into Beaches and Cream for an ice cream sundae or last-minute lunch, that is no longer an option. Beaches and Cream was booked out and would not accept any walk-ins, so make sure you get a reservation there in advance because it is unlikely that you will get in at the last minute.
The only negative we experienced at the Beach Club Resort Pool was the other guests. People get pretty viscous when it comes to reserving a spot at the pool. For one thing, guests will start lining up outside of the pool about 30 - 45 minutes before it opens just to reserve seats. after we were already inside the pool area, while we were enjoying the pool, one of the guests moved or stole our belongings right off the chairs. When we went back to the chairs our items were gone and a new family was sitting in our spot. They claimed they didn't see or move our belongings, but management and lost and found could not locate them and last I checked, clothing items do not get up and walk away on their own! Nina was pretty bummed since one of the items was her brand new and favorite Stitch hood. Of course my husband was upset and yelled at the people sitting in our chairs, but at the end of the day our stuff was nowhere to be found. When we got home I did contact lost and found just in case our items turn up somewhere. Disney has a great system now where you can report the items missing through the link below.
All in all, we had a magical time at Disney's Beach Club Resort and the pool. after our day of fun, we took it up a notch and went over to the Contemporary Resort where we dinned at Chef Mickey's Character Dining. This was so special to the kids because it is kind of a staple in our family, they have so many memories from Chef Mickey's. If you are interested in the changes they have made since re-opening, you can check out our page on our experience at Chef Mickey's by clicking here.
Our kids have grown up on our travels to Disney World. Even when we had very little, my husband would find a way to make it work. Even if it meant sitting through a timeshare presentation to get free 1 day passes to Disney World, he made it happen. We love seeing the joy in their eyes as they experience the Disney Magic. Even though Nina and Gabriel are older now, they still had some new experiences on this trip and still loved every minute of it and can't wait to go back!
