On the hunt for some good waves to practice our surf skills, it led us to a small beach town called Tamarindo in Guanacaste Costa Rica. The area is a little over one hour drive from the Liberia Airport or over four hours drive from the San Jose Airport. We chose to fly into Liberia so we would have a much shorter drive to the Tamarindo area. The Liberia Airport in Costa Rica does not have many flights at all, I think they only have three flights a day in and out of the entire airport. The airport is small, but they have lots of food options and the nice thing about the limited flights is that there was not many people in the airport. The downside to the limited flights are the prices are pretty high, the cost for all five of us to fly economy was the same price we pay to fly all five of us business class going to other places.

We stayed at the Tamarindo Diria Beach Resort in Tamarindo Costa Rica. It was not super expensive for our ten day stay which was nice on the wallet since we booked multiple rooms. The rooms were not super fancy, but they did have a tv and air conditioning so we were happy. What really made the resort for us was the picturesque view of the beach from all around the resort and the staff that really went above and beyond for our stay. Communication was great prior to our stay to get everything in place for our multiple rooms. Once we got there the staff was super friendly and accommodating in any way, including the help they provided to prepare a special birthday dinner for me. We could not have asked for anything more! The area surrounding the hotel has little shops, restaurants, supermarkets and even a casino so we enjoyed walking around the town as much as we enjoyed the actual hotel. If you have any questions on the Tamarindo, Guanacaste area, leave a comment below and we will be happy to give you any info we have.

The Tamarindo Diria Resort has on site surf lessons right there at the resort. We did a few of the lessons there as a family and we had a blast. The surf coach was very knowledgeable, but it was definitely more of a beginner surf lesson, we wanted a little bit more for our family.

Through some close friends back home, we were able to connect with the most amazing surf school in Costa Rica, More Surf Camp. Giovanni leads the surf school and he was probably one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He was extremely patient with Gabriel and took so much time to work with him. He took video footage of Gabriel on the waves and then spent ample time going over and critiquing his movements frame by frame. Giovanni also used different ways to explain skills to Gabriel in a way that would help Gabriel to understand. Luis was an amazing instructor too, he worked with me a lot in between my injury (I fell onto the fin of the surf board and couldn't surf or move my arm for several days). Luis was so nice and patient with me as well and has a lot of experience teaching the love of surfing. The More Surf Camp did not just take us to surf in front of the hotel, they took us all around Costa Rica to surf all the different pointe breaks. They even chartered a boat and prepared snacks to get the boys out to Witches Rock and Ollies Point (which were two amazing point breaks and the boys had a blast.)

During our stay in Costa Rica we were able to connect with our family that we have not seen in several years due to COVID. Junior's mom, aunt, cousin and niece were able to travel to Costa Rica from Brazil to meet us and spend some valuable time together. In the video you will see the long awaited tearful reunion. We had a very special time together in Costa Rica and made some precious new memories together, it was a blessing.

We met some pretty amazing people in Costa Rica. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful throughout our entire trip.

While at the resort the kids enjoyed swimming in the pools. The hotel had a few activities they offered such as tours and a kids club, but we did not get a chance to experience any of those. We did make a little scavenger hunt for the kids all around the hotel and they had a blast with it. We also did horseback riding on the beach which was an unforgettable experience.

We had so much fun and we are excited to share our vlog with you. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. We can't wait to go back to Costa Rica soon!
